Overview of DTU
Located in the heart of Da Nang, on the Pacific Ocean's sunny shore, DTU is rising day by day with the city with the desire to innovate in the direction of modernity. DTU was established on November 11, 1994 under the Prime Minister's Decision 666/QD-TTg. In 2015, the school was converted to a private type according to Decision No. 1704/QD-TTg dated 02/10/2015 of the Prime Minister. DTU is the first and largest private university in the Central region to offer multi-level, multi-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary training.

Over 30 years of construction, growth and development, the University has enrolled over 140,000 PhD students, graduate students, and students; training and graduating nearly 85,000 human resources with qualifications such as Ph.D., Master, Doctor, Pharmacist, Engineer, Architect and Bachelor (stopped enrolling professional intermediate students from 2012 and from 2018 the University does not enroll college students), contributing quality human resources to the process of industrialization - modernization and socio-economic development of the country. The results of the employment survey show that the employment rate of students after one year of graduation reaches nearly 91.91%. That affirms that the quality of the school's training has contributed to improving the intellectual level of the people and socializing education.
To continue to promote training, scientific research, international cooperation, and support for students to start a business,... DTU has built a team of 1,553 staff, lecturers and staff, including 1,096 faculty members; lecturers with doctoral degrees, professors and associate professors have 335 people, accounting for 30.56%. Many of DTU's staff and lecturers have graduated from prestigious universities in the United States, Russia, France, Germany, Canada, South Korea, and the Kingdom of Belgium,... In addition, about 200 domestic and foreign lecturers regularly come to DTU to give lectures. This team has contributed to the achievement of DTU in the past 5 years: Ranked in the Top 5 universities with the most international publications in Vietnam (Web of Science by Clarivate, USA); implementing 1 State-level project, 56 ministerial-level projects, 6 Protocol projects, 7 provincial-level projects; developed 15 patents and 1 utility solution certificate, of which 13 certificates were registered for protection abroad.
With the motto of "standing on the shoulders of giants" to elevate itself, DTU has partnered with prestigious universities in the U.S. to transfer training programs such as Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) - one of the top 4 universities for information technology in the U.S. (according to U.S. News 2021); Pennsylvania State University - 1 of the 50 schools for economics - America's Leading Business Administration (according to U.S. News 2021); California State University in Fullerton - the largest school in the California State University system along with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (CSU - CalState) - 1 of the top 5 schools in the United States for training Architecture - Construction; Purdue University - 1 of the top 10 schools in the US for Electrical - Electronics, Mechatronics. Not only "importing" advanced programs, DTU also creates new milestones in the cooperation process when bringing students to study abroad and obtain international degrees. Since 2010, DTU has officially launched 2+2 (the first 2 years at DTU and the next 2 years in the US or Canada), 1+1+2 (the first 1 year at DTU and the next 3 years in the US) and 3+1 (the first 3 years at DTU and the next 1 year in Singapore or the UK). In particular, in 2017, DTU created a new milestone in the Central region when it officially signed an agreement with Troy University (USA), giving Vietnamese students the opportunity to receive an international degree while studying in their home country in the following majors: Business Administration, Information Technology, Tourism & Hospitality Management. This is also one of the important steps to improve the quality of DTU's training.
Over 30 years of construction and development, DTU has grown stronger and stronger with proud achievements. Especially, the school has a very high position on world rankings. It can be as follows:
- Ranked 495 Best Universities in the World in 2025 according to QS Rankings;
- The school has achieved ABET accreditation from the United States for Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics majors;
- The first university in Vietnam to achieve UNWTO TedQual accreditation for the tourism sector;
In addition, the university's training fields are also highly ranked, such as: On April 10, 2024, QS announced that DTU's Architecture and Built Environment was ranked 151-200 in the world, Computer Science and Information Systems: ranked 351-400 in the world, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering: ranked 351-400 in the world, in the field of Environmental Sciences: ranked 351-400 in the world, in the field of Tourism and Leisure Service Management: ranked 101-150 in the world and in the field of Medicine: ranked 501-550 in the world. Benefiting from the good and optimal conditions of a prestigious and high-quality university, DTU students have also made proud achievements. That is: Ta Ba Thanh Huy - First Prize of the Informatics Olympiad in 2008. Dang Xuan Nam - first prize (only) of the Loa Thanh contest in 2010. Nguyen Thu Quynh - Typical Female Student of Vietnam in the field of Information Technology in 2012. Nguyen Thi Thanh - Women in Business Award 2018 in the US. First Prize of CDIO and honored to win the 2013 CDIO Penalty Shootout Gold Cup at Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. 2017 Won the CDIO Cup in Calgary, Canada. In September 2014, the IDEERS DTU team successfully overcame many strong competitors to win the IDEERS Asia-Pacific Championship Cup at the 2014 Earthquake-Resistant House Design Contest held in Taiwan. DTU students have also won three consecutive championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018 in the Go Green in the City and Microsoft Imagine Cup.
